Explore examples of America’s architecture with a visit to National Building Museum and celebrate the artistic forms of many DC real estate properties. Known for presenting critically acclaimed National Building Museum exhibits, the NBM always has some awe inspiring presentations to enjoy.
Currently, the Icebergs exhibit holds center stage. Running through September 5, 2016, this massive exhibit fills the Museum’s Great Hall and has been created from reusable construction materials from DC real estate or nearby. A towering iceberg sculpture represents the magnificent size of these natural forms. Visitors will journey to a viewing area inside the tallest structure and can slide down an icy chute or walk across an undersea bridge. Afterwards guests can try a sample of Japanese kakigori, a sweet shaved ice treat.

Permanent collections are also impressive. The James Stewart Construction Collection holds items representative of works from General Electric, Standard Oil, Pennsylvania Railroad and more. Vintage toys dating from 1860 comprise the Architectural Toy display. See the early models of Lincoln Logs and Erector Sets. These toys often provided the basic building blocks for children to experiment with architecture throughout time in their DC metro homes.
With a focus on community spirit, programs held both for adults and youth include lectures and educational events with a focus on science, arts and innovation. Free family festivals also fill the calendar and are wonderful opportunities for making memories. Hours for the National Building Museum are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
